Notes from Cllr. Sully's December 2025 Report, Somerset Council.

Details
Published: 03 December 2025
  1. The Local Government Boundary Commission has re-opened it's consultation on draft recommendations.  It will now run from now (Dec 2025)-January 14th 2026. It has been re-opened 'following the Commission's misunderstanding of Somerset Council's preference for predominantly single-councillor divisions which was incorrectly interpreted as a formal request for a uniform pattern.  This led to concerns that multi-councillor divisions may not receive adequate consideration, prompting the Commission to ensure a fair and transparent review process'.

Residents are encouraged to participate by sharing their views, including support for multi-member divisions as the Commission aims to consider all perspectives.  Final recommendations are expected to be published in March 2026 with new arrangements set to take effect in May 2027, pending parliamentary approval.

THE MORE PEOPLE WHO RAISE THIS THE BETTER SO THAT BT OPENREACH IS AWARE OF THE DEMAND.

N.B. Footnote that MP Anna Sabine is going to raise the matter in parliament.

Good Luck Everyone.
